First, I've owned hickey.com for over 25 years and never used it for anything so I'm happy to actually use it now. I'm often asked what I'm doing, involved in, eating, buying, thinking, investing in, and so in an effort to save myself from sending lots of messages and links, as I do when friends want more information, I'm putting much of it on my own website.
It all started in my first year of college tennis at Brigham Young University Hawaii Campus. I would go to tennis practise right after lunch and some days I was super tired for no apparent reason. One day my biology teacher, Dr. Randy Day, was watching practice and I asked him if he had any ideas on why this was happening. He told me to start keeping a food journal especially at lunch and then look at what I ate on the days I felt tired. Sure enough almost immediately I saw what was happening. The days I was tired I was eating pounds (literally) of sugars and carbs and spiking my insulin. I didn't eliminate carbs and sugars from my diet but I just cut way back on sodas, juices, deserts and breads. I literally never got tired at practice again. This was the first time in my life, believe it or not, that I realized the things I ate had an impact on my energy and health. I've had a love affair with all things food, exercise, health, longevity and aging backwards ever since. In the aging backwards section of this website I'll share with you what I've learned/ing and what I'm doing now to stay healthy for the next 60 years.
